Von 14. bis 16. Februar 2018 findet die Winter Youth Assembly 2018 mit dem Titel "Innovation & Collaboration for a Sustainable World" im Headquater der Vereinten Nationen in New York statt. Rund 1000 Teilnehmer/innen aus den verschiedensten UN-Mitgliedsländern kommen zusammen, um im Sinne der Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) zu innovativen Lösungen für globale Herausforderungen zu arbeiten. Dialog und Vernetzung stehen dabei im Vordergrund und das Programm bietet neben Vorträgen auch spannende Workshops, Trainings und Side Events. Gottfried Franz Mayer ist als österreichischer Jugendvertreter vor Ort und nimmt als Entsandter des Institut für Umwelt, Friede und Entwicklung (IUFE) an der UN-Winter Youth Assembly teil.

Gottfried [gm] wird hier von seinen Erlebnissen und über Inhalte der Tagung berichten. Florian Leregger [fl], der Geschäftsführer des IUFE, wird ihn von Wien aus dabei unterstützen. Wahlweise wird in deutscher und/oder englischer Sprache berichtet.

Wer ist Gottfried Franz Mayer? / Who is Gottfried Franz Mayer?
Gottfried studiert derzeit im Masterprogramm "Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy" an der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien. Sein Bachelorstudium "Umwelt- und Bioressourcenmanagement" absolvierte er an der Universität für Bodenkultur mit Auslandssemester in Telemark (Norwegen) und Praxis in Boston (USA). Neben seiner ehrenamtlichen Tätigkeit im Ökosozialen Studierenden Forum sammelt(e) der ausgebildete Trainer Berufserfahrung etwa in den Bereichen Integration, Kommunikation, Nachhaltigkeit und Tourismus im In- und Ausland. Er wird vom Institut für Umwelt, Friede und Entwicklung (IUFE) als österreichischer Jugendvertreter zur Winter Youth Assembly 2018 entsandt.
Gottfried studies "Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy" at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. For the bachelor programme "Environment and Bio-Ressources Management" he attended the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna with stays abroad in Telemark (Norway) and Boston (USA). Who is behind the Youth Assembly?
The Assembly was launched by the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation in 2002. As an annual forum since 2004 the Assembly have touched the lives of nearly 14,000 young people from more than 100 countries around the world (more details). A lot of program partners such as CARE, UNESCO, NEW CITIES, PRICEWATERHOUSE COOPERS, AINFOREST ALLIANCE, SDSN YOUTH are on board (all partners).

Hallo Freunde!
Ich bin gut in New York gelandet und in ein paar Stunden geht es los! Auf der Anreise habe ich mich unter Anderem mit dem SDG Update 2017 vorbereitet. Das würde ich sehr gerne mit Euch teilen!
In einigen Bereichen gibt es Fortschritte. Allerdings gibt es auch erschreckende Informationen im Report. Habt ihr z.B. gewusst, dass die Stromerzeugung durch erneuerbarerer Energie zwar rasch steigt, der Wärme- und Verkehrssektor aber stark hinterherhinkt. Die große Herausforderung wird ersichtlich, wenn man bedenkt dass dieser Sektor 80% des gesamten Energieverbrauchs stellt. Strom hingegen nur 20%. - Es gibt viel zu Besprechen!

[> PHOTO] Great sessions & impressions! ... Many "ZUKUNFTSREZEPTE"
The day started with a discussion led by "Thought For Food" which engages and empowers the next generation to feed 9+ billion people by the year 2050. We´ve got to know startups and innovative products like "biteback insect oil" creating a nutrient-dense and sustainable alternative for palm oil made of edible insect, as well as the startup "AgroSpheres" disrupting the biotech market.
This was followed by an inspiring and innovative workshop called "Advocacy: transforming ideas into reality" led by CARE International. I can´t tell you how amazing this session was... #goosebumps
Amongst others, I had great conversations with Sandrine Atabong - President of Women in Humanitarian Dynamics - WIHD, Ganesh Sapkota - an eco-social activist from Nepal as well as Dinesh Pai - an education ambassador from India. Dinesh broadened my horizon about the potentialities of blockchain for eco-social initiatives.

[> PHOTO] Im Jahr 2015 gründete Trinity Donohugh “GirlsforCS”, um mehr Mädchen und junge Frauen für ein Informatikstudium zu ermutigen. Nach ersten Workshops in Schulen in Hongkong und Großbritannien, vergrößerte sich das Projekt ruckartig. Podcasts, die Mädchen überall auf der Welt erreichen und die Edsity-App entstanden. Die App soll Studierenden die Möglichkeit bieten, ihre mit Kindern in der ganzen Welt ihre Wissensbereiche zu teilen. Aktuell wird an Videos, Zeichentrickfilmen, Gifs, und Artikeln zu Themen wie Gesundheit, Umweltschutz und Wirtschaft für die App gearbeitet. [> PHOTO] Over 1.000 global youth delegates were coming together at The Youth Assembly at the United Nations! International dialogue is at the core of the event! An example for this would be a long and eye-opening talkt with Benita Nnachortam Nnenna, an artist in the field of sustainability and Creative Director of KUTA Nigeria. In one session about advocacy, she stressed the importance of recognising culture as an underlying structural factor towards a more sustainable future. A discussion I will never forget! Thank you :)

nach großartigen und sehr lehrreichen 10 Tagen befinde ich mich nun auf dem Rückweg nach Österreich. Ein detaillierter Bericht zu allen Erlebnissen und potenziellen Kooperationen vom UN Youth Assembly findet sich in Kürze auf: www.zukunftsrezepte.at
Leider hat der Flug nach New York ca. 2,7t CO2/pro Person ausgestoßen. Das alleine ist schon mehr, als eine Person im Jahr verbrauchen sollte, um den Klimawandel auf das geringste Übel zu beschränken. Kompensation ist umstritten, man sollte sich die Organisationen sehr genau aussuchen!
Bei der Recherche bin ich auf ein außergewöhnliches Zukunftsrezept gestoßen welches ich nun mit $100,-- unterstütze: sailgargo inc. Das Foto stammt aus Costa Rica. Dort soll bis 2021 die größte Segel-Handelsyacht im Pazifik mit einer Kapazität von 200t entstehen. Hinter dem Projekt steht ein tolles Team mit der Vision, Seehandel auf eine ernst gemeinte ökosoziale Ebene zu heben. So wird hier z.B. gerade der Kiel aus Sturmholz des Tamarindenbaums gefertigt.
